Our Commercial Construction Projects
Uno Duo, Vinegar Lane, Ponsonby, Auckland
With five different builders working in the same precinct the biggest challenge on the Duo Uno apartment project in Vinegar Lane, Ponsonby, has been coordination. Construction was started in November 2015 on the luxury apartment complex for client Oakland Apartments Limited. Uno features two retail units on the ground floor and an office on the first floor. It also includes ten apartments - one on the first floor then three on each floor – giving penthouse style living. Duo offers ten boutique apartments each with its own balcony. The design of the project has taken its inspiration from Auckland’s super yacht industry with the architects utilising durable materials including high-gloss lacquered panels and hardwood decking. Apartment living spaces are oriented facing northwest to overlook the lane while the bedrooms will have courtyard views.
Piling was already complete when Solid Build Construction arrived to site so the first step was the construction of a retaining wall, excavation works and completing foundations. Made from precast concrete panels and structural steel, concrete has just been poured for level three before work will commence on level four and finally the roof. The project is earmarked for completion prior to Christmas. At peak Solid Build Construction had around 50 staff and contractors on site.
“With five different builders working on the site on various projects it has been essential to liaise heavily to coordinate timing and delivery of products to site,” explains Mike. "This is even more important at the moment with the booming building industry in Auckland as product suppliers are all booked weeks in advance so we can't afford to miss a date.”
